I am by no means trying to minimize the tragedy in Haiti that has occurred, nor am I trying to imply that the people of Haiti need help. My opinion is that with all the effort we have put forth to assist Haiti in their time of need, the telethons and specials with celebrity support, companies like Starbucks donating $1,000,000, and the numerous red cross donation spots throughout your day, we are showing our strength in giving aide. What I don't get nor see as being positive is that we cannot do the same for our own country. Imagine if all the celebrities and rich people as well as the companies with money to spare, not the ones failing, came together and helped the homeless in THIS COUNTRY, OUR COUNTRY. Imagine turning on the TV and Steven Speilberg is on the phone taking a call from someone donating a few dollars to help the economy and to dig America out of its debthole. Imagine Matt Damon speaking on behalf of the people who have lost their jobs in the USA, because there are thousands of them, and asking that we unite, democrats and republicans alike, to save our dream, the American dream. Can you imagine that? We are in an emergency situation here in the USA and not only us but the rest of the world because as we have seen, we effect the global market when we crash. Should we wait until we are homeless to take advantage of the great social services in this country. How about we try to get healthcare when WE lose our job or our family is in trouble but since the economy failed and the bank that was investing our money is now gone, we'll rely on our job and stock options but the company announces its laying people off and the stocks plummet and then you lose your job. You use your savings while you try to get a new job but the market is horrible and you can't get a new one besides working a fryer, so you sell your house but it is worth half as much as you owe on your mortgage still now you're living in a crappy apartment with your three kids who are now going to public schools, which since we have lowered standards, they give a poor education. You and your wife are 55 years old but cannot collect your diminishing social security yet because they changed the age and now you are expected to work at an entry position for the next 20 years because no one was willing to reach out to you when you needed help. We are not that far from this happening and we need to start taking donations to save the US. If McDonalds and Starbucks can donate a million dollars to help Haiti then they should be able to help their country. Please does anybody know what I am talking about? Is there a way that we can come to our aide? Now lets realize that our problem isn't as bad as Haiti, but we do have thousands of homeless people on our own streets. Why can't we get them fixed up and into new houses and a shower and a job, maybe we can get them some healthcare? Here in America we ignore the homeless people when we walk by them!!! But we pretend to the World we are okay by giving to Haiti. Clean up our streets too! it is so crazy to me that we ignore the domestic problems, stop ignoring them.
